Two weekends ago, someone on Craftster posted a message about a GIANT yarn sale at Knithappens. Five minutes later, I had $200 worth of luxury yarn in the webstore shopping cart. It was wrenching, but I removed most of them and stuck to the basics.
Nine days later, my husband walks into my office where I am madly transcribing an old interview, and announces that there is a box sitting outside our front door. I remember that feeling – back when I was single and dating – when a new boyfriend would surprise me with a wrapped gift. My heart skips a beat, and I am awash in pleasurable anticipation. I giggle and bounce gleefully as I pry open the box.
Six skeins of Cascade 220, 7 balls of Debbie Bliss Cashmerino, and 3 sets of bamboo knitting needles, including a nonstandard size, 10 3/4 (7mm). The logic of American needle and hook sizing remains a mystery. A while later, reality sets in. I was trying to push my color comfort zone, but… ok, I can pull off fuchsia, but what the heck am I going to do with 1320 yards of FLAMINGO PINK?
Meanwhile, I found a coupon for 30% off the entire purchase at Michael’s between 9pm-1am today. So here’s the damage:
I went in intending to purchase Patons Grace (here in Viola) is for the Cupcake sweater from SnB Happy Hooker. Yarn choice inspired by my therapist’s gorgeous rendition. Then I remembered a really sweet light blue cardigan worn by a young woman at a recent wedding. It was done in simple double-crochet with lightweight mohair yarn. So I toss in a few balls of Patons Lacette. Hmm, the Bernat Softee Baby feels much softer and seems to drape better than the Lion Babysoft I’ve been using; let’s see how it works and wears as a cardigan.
Let’s see, I need another ball of Dark Rose Heather to over-dye with Kool-Aid for my top-down raglan sweater. Better throw in one more as backup. And didn’t I promise a friend I’d make him a hat? Okay, one ball of Navy Woolease.
Whew. This is adding up. Better head to the checkout stand.
But wait! This is new here. Could it be…? It is! Clover’s “Wonder-Knitter”, a spool knitting tool. No way am I going to use double pointed needles to do an I-cord. Can’t pass it up now, gotta get the 30% discount, right?
Did I get great deals on yarn? Yes. Did I spend more than twice my monthly yarn budget? Hell, yes. Then again, the Knithappens purchase was last month. *sigh of relief* Now I just have to hold out for the rest of April.
OMG Rina, you make me drool here!
The rest of April is a long time, but I have faith that you can do it! Nice score on the sales!
